National Health Insurance Supports Children's Cancer Treatment Costs—Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced the government's decision to include the cost of treating childhood cancer in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

After the meeting, he wrote on Facebook: “At a stakeholder meeting held this afternoon in Accra, Mr. H announced the fulfillment of his promise to include the cost of treating childhood cancer in the national health insurance.”

He added that the cost of hydroxyurea, a treatment for sickle cell anemia, is currently covered by the National Health Insurance System.

“These medical decisions are important for disease control and greatly reduce the financial burden on families of children, cancer patients, and patients with sickle cell anemia during treatment.”
