Popular Afrobeats singer Temilade Openyi (Tems) won Best International Act at the 2022 BET Awards.
The annual awards ceremony was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate the achievements of blacks in music, culture, and sports.
Nominees for the Award include Fireboy, Dave from England, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from England, Ludmilla from Brazil, Djz from South Africa and Tayc from France.
After receiving the award, Tems issued a statement motivating women around the world to reach for the stars.
“Thanks. Thank you very much. It's an honor for me… I mean, this is the first awards ceremony I've ever won, and I wanted to make it an opportunity to talk to all the young people, old people, anyone. … all the women are watching, and all the women are watching at home. It doesn't happen where I'm from,” she said.
