Samuel Eto'o for supporting Afcon 2021 will be honored

The newly elected president of the Cameroon Football Association, Samuel Eto'o, confirmed that AFCON 2021, which is planned for next month, will continue.

Many clubs around the world have filed various demands for CAF to cancel the tournament due to the resumption of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the reluctance of European clubs to abandon their players during this crucial part of the season.

However, Eto'o, an African football legend, played down the club's claims and insisted that the tournament was scheduled to take place in January.

"Why not play?" Eto'o told Canal Plus.

"The association I represent will be persistent in defending the competition. The Euros are being played with full stadiums in the midst of a pandemic. Why not play? We have to be clear about this."

Although Rwanda failed to qualify for the competition, the East African nation has great interest as its referee Salma Radio Mukansanga has been selected by the African Football Federation (CAF) to be one of the referees to judge the tournament.
