Christian Pulisic Has Already Missed 40 Matches In All Competitions Due To Injury At Chelsea.

The U.S.A striker is a potential global legend, but his constant fitness issues have seen him not to attain such greatness.

Christian Pulisic's career at Chelsea has been hampered by a series of injuries that have threatened to put him at one of the most competitive teams in the world.

His latest ankle kick was his third major mistake since joining the Borussia Dortmund Blues in 2019 for £58 million ($73 million) - a record transfer for a US national team player.

Including a number of minor issues, the 23-year-old suffered around 11 injuries in his two-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, resulting in him missing 40 games in all competitions for Chelsea.

It is a very bad situation not only for the player but also for his club's medical team, who are constantly trying to solve his problems and are careful with their workload and preparations.

But so far, they haven't been able to come up with any solutions, and his explosive nature can always cause muscle injuries, while his agility and speed make him a moving target that opposing players can kick.

The US men's national team captain is at least on the verge of returning after returning to training on Thursday, raising hopes he can play for Chelsea ahead of the upcoming international holiday.

Pulisic's last injury, of course, came in his last appearance for his country in September against Honduras.

"He's injured from a foul, a big foul and an ankle injury," Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said as he focused on his wing fitness issues. "You don't have to worry about specific details. We don't hide details. But I can't give you all the details because I'm not a doctor.

"At the moment he is suffering from pain loss. It is not due to trauma or serious complications. Only the pain in his ankle is bothering him. Once fast-moving players like Christian feel this pain and they are not free to move, there is no recovery.

“You start all over again and you reach a certain point and the pain comes back. And you should take a short break and start over.

Christian Pulisic Thomas Tuhel quotes GFX

"So at the moment we are very close. He was very close to training last week and experienced few failures and painful reactions, nothing serious.

"He is obviously very impatient, he does everything and we can see him suffering in every encounter. And every time we see him here [on the training pitch] he really suffers and wants to be on the pitch to help us.

"Everyone is doing their best. Unfortunately, injuries take time to solve."

However, time is a precious product in football and especially at a club like Chelsea. Pulisic will of course always remain a key figure for his country. But players are indispensable at Stamford Bridge.

Things can change very quickly and while Pulisic is a valued and loved member of the team, it was important for Chelsea to win without him but we can't say we don't leave him.

Tuhel's talent was only underlined last weekend when his side beat Norwich 7-0 at home, although starters Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner missed the Premier League game through injury.

It's also worth remembering that Hakim Ziyesh is struggling to overcome a shoulder problem that resulted in a dramatic drop in form, but Chelsea are still looking to win the game.

Mason Mount scored a hat-trick against Norwich while Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was likely bottom of the league table before Pulisic's latest injury, is showing signs that he is finally ready to reach his full potential in West London.

Pulisic will then be under immediate pressure to prove himself to Tuhel when he returns to the pitch.

Under former manager Frank Lampard Pulisic, he clearly showed he could be a world fighter. His contribution in the Champions League semi-final win over Real Madrid in both matches was immense.

But now Pulisic must quickly forget about his injury problems, because at Chelsea time doesn't wait for a single player - no matter how talented you are.
